Susan Lee Bates was born November 14, 1952, in Dallas, Texas to Delmer Lee and Loretta Elaine James Bates and died September 14, 2021, in Ada, Oklahoma at the age of 68 years, 10 months.
Susan was a 1971 graduate of Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas. She worked for a time as a Corrections Office with the Department of Corrections. She had worked with the Plano Jaycees and was known as Thunderbunz. She loved music and especially Neil Diamond and the Eagles. She also was an avid Star Trek fan. She adored all her grandchildren and was one of the most giving persons around. She was an avid poem writer and had at least one poem published, titled “Remembered Life”.
Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, Simeon and Susie Mae James; her parents, a niece Brandy C. Rutan. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Bates Rutan; brother, Stephen Bates; daughters, Stacy Melton, Elizabeth Huskey, Jennifer Huskey, son, Lance Brown and his wife Lilly; grandchildren, William Laster, Micah Crossland, Alex Brown, Eric Brown, Zachary Brown, Ellie Brown, Noah Bates and Christina Nusbaum cousin and friend, Jim James; nephew, Marcus Rutan and his wife Lisa; great nephew Ryan Rutan and her best friend of 40 plus years, Cynthia Schepps
It was Susan’s choice to donate her body to the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a late date.
