Jessie Black Obituary

Funeral services for Jessie Black, age 91, of Burneyville are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Rubottom Baptist Church with Reverend Ryan Eakins officiating.  Interment will follow at the Jimtown Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Laurel Funeral Home, Healdton, Oklahoma.

Jessie was born in Leon, Oklahoma on June 22, 1929 to Artis Jefferson and Ida Perkins Hallum.  She passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at her home in Burneyville.

Jessie graduated from Leon High School in 1948.  Jessie and David L. Black, Sr. were married in Gainesville, Texas on November 13, 1948, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2015.  She worked at the Cookie Factory in Marietta before becoming a homemaker and helping her husband on their peanut farm.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going out to dinner with her husband and friends, taking trips to Branson, and attending basketball games.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Black; her parents and siblings, David (Dixie) Hallum, Clayton Hallum, Rayford Hallum; her sister-in-law and best friend, Mary Lou Hallum and great grandson, Elijah Rice.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Charles Black and his wife Ann of Jimtown; grandchildren, Laura Black and her husband John David Griffin of Ardmore, Kylene Seele and her husband Kyle of Flower Mound, Texas, Lynzi Rice and her husband Nathan of Edmond, and John Black of Jimtown; great-grandchildren, Derrick, Brooke and Trent Seele, and Presley and Jackson Rice; sister, Linda Schwartz and numerous other family and friends.

Pallbearers are John Black, Derrick Seele, Greg Hallum, Ronald Hallum, Nathan Rice, Kyle Seele and John David Griffin.  Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Black, Toney Hearell, Otis Hearell, Gene Rhoades, Dick Chance, Don Musser, and Will Musser.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Kathleen Karr, Jean Brooks and Marsha Higgins who provided diligent and thoughtful care to her through the final years of her life.  

Family visitation will be Friday, March 5, 2021, from 6 until 8 pm at Laurel Funeral Home, 665 Fifth Street, Healdton, Oklahoma.
